JOB SUMMARY: Direct the manufacturing operations at the Hesston facility (vertically integrated, high mix build fabrication, assembly and automated paint industrial manufacturing environment) consisting of 7 business unit, manufacturing plants, 1.8 million square feet under roof, with approximately 1,000 employees.  Ensure full utilization of all available resources to the manufacture of the highest quality components / finished goods while maintaining considerable diligence to Operations Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) of Safety (Incident Rates), Quality (Right First Time and Defects per Unit), Delivery (Build to Schedule Compliance), Productivity (Operating Efficiency), Continuous Improvement (Elimination of Waste) and Sales & Operations Planning.

 

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Direct responsibility for the facility’s operational performance in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, Continuous Improvement, Efficiency, and Cost.
  • Responsible for identifying, growing and developing the talent in the operations organization resulting in improved leadership effectiveness.
  • Meet product build plans and sales forecasts by developing production planning and scheduling systems, optimizing labor, equipment and inventory resources; examining and resolving schedule and quality nonconformities and problems.
  • Exercise direct leadership over Manufacturing Management Team with respect to safety initiatives, production volumes, cost and quality to meet operations and customer delivery schedules.
  • Implement world class LEAN / Continuous Improvement production systems.
  • Meet financial objectives and goals by preparing and managing the annual budget, developing and managing forecasting requirements, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions as needed.
  • Coordinate the functions required to efficiently process design changes from Design Engineering through Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Planning and Release, multiple internal Production Departments as well as external suppliers.
  • Drive employee safety processes and systems within all production areas.
  • Insure year over year efficiency and productivity improvement.

 

FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:

This position requires knowledge gained from previous plant leadership experience in a low volume, high complexity Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or a Tier-1 manufacturing organization with particular focus on quality, lean / continuous improvement / cost reduction within a lean operation.

 

BUSINESS EXPERTISE:

This position requires a demonstrated experience in forecasting in a manufacturing setting, analysis of variance, development of an annual budget and scheduling expenditures. The ability to analyze operational KPI’s, financial metrics to drive change and improvement is critical. Proven experience with structured change management principles is also critical.  Proven, in-depth knowledge of manufacturing, assembly and painting processes (i.e. components manufacturing: robotic and manual welding, CNC machining, fabrication and laser cutting; complex assembly component manufacturing; highly automated liquid spray, power coat and dip tank paint processing.)   Experience in balancing multiple priorities from multiple assembly and component manufacturing plants on one site.

 

LEADERSHIP/PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:

The Director of Operations is a highly visible position in which the incumbent will interact on a regular basis with executive and senior management while facilitating local & corporate initiatives to ensure best in class operational results. This position is directly responsible for leading the efforts of approximately 1,000 hourly and salaried support employees.

 

PROBLEM SOLVING:

The Director of Operations will possess a strategic focus when addressing current and potential problems. The incumbent will be aggressive in resolving issues to ensure they do not reoccur and will hold direct reports accountable for the performance of stated goals, objectives and targets.

 

NATURE OF IMPACT:

This position will have direct leadership over AGCO’s largest production facility in North America; manufacturing a diverse line of combines as well as hay & forage products.

 

AREA OF IMPACT:

This position has a strong focus on the manufacture of the highest quality components or goods. Safety, Quality, Productivity, Delivery and Financial Performance are all critical expected focal points.

 

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

The Director of Operations will coordinate with the peer leaders of each of the local and in-residence organizations associated with the Hesston facility and the manufacturing organization at the North American and Global level.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, Engineering or related field.  MBA is preferred.
  • Experience gained from 10+ years of experience in a higher level management / leadership role in an industrial, manufacturing setting, preferably in a low volume / high complexity Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or tier-1 supplier environment.
  • 5 plus years financial experience, budgeting, forecasting (total cost responsibility above $10 million USD.)
  • Leadership experience in implementing a Lean Manufacturing / Continuous Improvement program with proven results.
  • Demonstrated experience with structured change management principles with proven results.
  • Previous experience working within a union environment is preferred. 
  • Must be able to think and act both strategically as well as tactically.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills utilizing a variety of delivery methods to variable audiences.
