Mechanical Design Engineer

The engineering team at AGCO has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer.  The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and integrating mechanical systems for agricultural machinery, and will be part of a small, high-performing team.  Some of the desired capabilities for the person filling this role are:

 

  • Mechanical design experience
    • Experience with CAD modeling tools, such as Creo, is a strong plus
    • Experience with sheet metal design principles and application in CAD modeling is a strong plus
    • Experience with farm machinery, specifically hay equipment, is a strong plus
    • Experience with hydraulics , especially on mobile equipment, is a strong plus
    • Familiar with power transfer design and application, e.g., belts, chains, gear trains, drives, etc.
    • Ability to draft engineering prints on newly designed parts, revised parts, and assemblies
    • Capability to design bolted and welded joints as a part of a whole system
    • Capability to learn geometric tolerance and inspection practices
    •  
    • Experience with welding, machining, or general metal fabrication, is a strong plus
    • Familiar with FEA and other engineering design simulation processes
    • Capability to troubleshoot issues that arise in the field during testing and think out-side-the-box to implement creative decisions.
  • Familiarity with electronics/harnessing on mobile equipment is a strong plus in order to aid in the integration of other electrical systems into a mechanical design
    • Basic understanding of 12 volt electrical systems on mobile machinery
    • Basic understanding of how to read and interpret electrical schematics
    • Familiar with robotics or agricultural mechatronic systems
    • Familiar with sensor application and harness routing principles
  • Communication
    • Proficient in written and oral communication
    • Capable of working effectively with cross functional engineering teams, product service, manufacturing, purchasing, and other internal groups
  • Customer Focus
    • Ability to interact with farmers in a beta test environment to gather relevant feedback
    •  
    • Desire to improve farmers’ efficiency and profitability through the adoption of new technology
  • Teamwork
    • Ability to function effectively as a member of a small, high-output team
    • Ability and willingness to innovate given limited direction and contribute beyond your direct area of responsibility
  • Attitude
    • Solid decision making skills, and the ability to make decisions with limited direction
    • A desire to participate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high degree of freedom for innovation
  • Experience/Education
    • B.S. in mechanical engineering, agricultural engineering, or other relevant technical field
    • 0-5 years of mechanical design
