JOB PURPOSE:

The Tooling Department Machinist plans and performs a variety of machining operations to make completed parts from raw material to precise dimensional tolerances. This individual is responsible for operating all the manual machine shop equipment needed in the production of these machined parts. This individual is also responsible for ensuring the quality of their own work through the use of precision measuring instruments. The Tooling Dept. Machinist should have high mechanical aptitude, close attention to detail, and be able to work with minimal supervision to complete tasks.

 

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Fastening machined parts together into assemblies/fixtures.
  • Ensuring assembled fixtures function as intended.
  • Troubleshooting and making adjustments to completed fixtures as needed.
  • Following all safety regulations and advises on safety hazards that exist.
  • Keeping area and department clean and organized.
  • Keeping equipment in good working order, and advises Supervisor of any required maintenance.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 year Technical Degree in the machine trades.
  • 3+ years in a machinist role.
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches in both metric and English.
  • Ability to set-up and run machine shop equipment including mills, lathes, drill presses, saws, etc.
  • Ability to hold tight machining tolerances.
  • Knowledge and experience in using precision measuring instruments.
  • Above average mathematical skills.
  • Ability to learn computer controlled machining operations
  • Excellent mechanical assembly skills and use of hand tools
  • Basic welding ability.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to be flexible to handle multiple and changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Good communication skills, ability to partner with other departments and foster teamwork.
  • Ability to participate/lead in problem solving activities and pro-actively take action.
  • Have a professional aptitude and ability to represent the department in a professional manner.
