Job Summary

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is a member of the Human Resources Team and will serve as the lead of EHS for AGCO Grain and Protein, Assumption location. The EHS Manager will develop, implement and manage all EHS procedures and programs in accordance with regulatory and corporate EHS requirements to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. The EHS Manager is responsible for managing and providing guidance, training and development to site safety professionals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Advise all levels of management on EHS matters; providing EHS expertise to line organizations in areas such as: environmental compliance reporting, ergonomics, electrical safety, machine guarding, confined space entry, lock-out/tag-out, etc.
  • Review associated incident and injury data and conduct follow up interviews and investigations. Organize and present findings to business unit, local management and corporate personnel.
  • Coordinate environmental plans and ensure compliance with programs such as air quality, storm water, hazardous materials plans, pollution prevention and spill plans including program training.
  • Coordinate internal onsite audits/site inspections/training to ensure compliance with permits and programs.
  • Manage emergency response capabilities.
  • Work in conjunction with plant management to maintain all safety systems such as fire detection and suppression, egress, plant security, parking, etc.
  • Provide input to site managers by identifying and tracking appropriate safety metrics and assessing performance.
  • Participate in the review of new projects and research initiatives to ensure proper implementation of company EHS programs and policies, provide EHS consulting services to operations and business units.
  • Review and interpret new and proposed regulations for applicability, develop associated implementation and training programs and procedures.
  • Maintain relationships with approved external training suppliers.
  • Coordinate the need for any off-site training activities for employees with Managers and HR Department.
  • Coordinate with facility leadership on annual training budget.
  • Manage and maintain in-house training facilities and equipment.
  • Keep current on training certifications.


Safety Responsibilities

Employees/temporary employees are responsible for individual compliance with all safety rules, policies and procedures.  Associate responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Comply with all safety rules, policies and procedures.
  • Report any unsafe practices and/or conditions to their supervisor.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and report any defective PPE.
  • Report all near-misses, incidents, injuries, illnesses, including mobile equipment or property damage.
  • Participation in the site Safety and Health Program.


Essential skills


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety or related field or equivalent education and experience required.


Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of three years of previous EHS management experience (managing others within the EHS function) in an industrial manufacturing organization with particular focus in developing, implementing, and managing world-class safety processes and systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining long-range strategic implementation of core environmental and safety processes and systems.
  • Certified Safety Professional, Certified Environmental Professional, Board Certified Safety Professional, etc. preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations; advanced comprehension of the OSHA Standards for General Industry and EPA/State DEQ Regulations.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
  • Strong planning and project management skills and ability to apply these skills in effective working partnerships across organizational lines; experience in coaching line managers.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills, including group facilitation and presentation skills; excellent interpersonal skills, including leadership, influencing and relationship-building across functions

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will have one direct report team member.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works with and near large machinery and equipment daily. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme conditions including temperatures ranging from 40°F to 105°F. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.


Physical Demands

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this job.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or craw and frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands or arms. The employee must be able to stand for up to twelve hours per day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


The employee must wear personal protective equipment (i.e. eye protection, respirator, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, sleeves, etc.)
