Manager, Global Structural Engineering and Simulation Job

Job Summary

The Manager, Global Structural Engineering and Simulation will create value for Customers and AGCO by aligning, standardizing, and developing internal competencies in Structural Engineering and Simulation.  The role will coordinate local capabilities in a global network of supporting experts that provide value at their own and other locations.  This will accelerate development and reduce overall product cost and engineering cost.

 

This value will be realized as:

  • Improved quality and timeliness of structural engineering analysis for individual projects and orders through in-house resource, coupled with contractors as appropriate
  • Product cost reduction (PCO) through structural optimization of selected products.
  • Improved timeliness from globally distributed resources that share workload as needed.
  • Reduced engineering time through increased use of Simulation to accelerate design.
  • Reduced product cost and improved reliability from designs optimized by simulation.
  • Aligned evaluation of field issues to bring quick resolution.

 

This position will:

  • Function as a part of the Engineering Leadership
  • Establish and monitor the percentage and cost of structural work done internally vs with suppliers
  • Monitor and report Structural Engineering projects: quantity and quality
  • Develop requirements, tools, and skills to implement FEA, CFD, DEM, and other simulation methods
  • Monitor and report Simulation work: quantity and quality
  • Identify PCO opportunities through Structural and Simulation-based optimization
  • Establish, monitor and improve business processes around key software’s and tools
  • Lead analysis of field failures to drive for root cause and corrective actions

 

Job Function and Responsibilities

  • Function as a part of the Engineering Leadership Team, working with Engineering Directors and Site Leaders to develop team members and organization structure.
  • Develop requirements, tools, and organization for Structural Engineering to cover a percentage of expected demand, and identify outside contractors for the balance.  Exact percentage to be determined in collaboration with Engineering Leadership team
  • Monitor Structural Engineering work and quality across all sites, and report areas for improvement needed.
  • Develop requirements, tools, and skill sets required to implement FEA, CFD, DEM, and other simulation techniques as required.  Implement tools and train new users.
  • Monitor Simulation work and quality across all sites, and report areas for improvement needed.
  • Collaborate as a part of the Engineering Core Team (ECT) to assure AGCO Grain and Protein engineering strategies and actions are coherent across all sites and product platforms, consistent with the corporate strategic plan and are targeted to achieve or exceed profitability, sales revenue, cash flow, market share and return on capital objectives.
  • Identify Product Cost Optimization opportunities inherent in optimizing existing structures to minimize material and labor costs in production
  • Collaborate as a part of the Global Engineering Core Team (Engineering Leadership team and Site Managers) to assure AGCO Grain and Protein engineering strategies and actions are coherent across all sites and product platforms, consistent with the corporate strategic plan and are targeted to achieve or exceed profitability, sales revenue, cash flow, market share and return on capital objectives.  

ESSENTIAL SKILLS 
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (or similar) required. 
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5 - 10 years of experience in large, international manufacturing company
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in a variety of engineering, managerial level jobs 
  • Familiarity with Structural Engineering practices and global regulations/codes
  • Expert experience with Simulation and Analysis tools similar to required here
  • Solid financial experience and business judgment

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Direct reports – up to 5 direct reports
  • Indirect reports – None
  • Matrix reports – up to 20

 

Budget P&L ResPONSIBILITY

  • Responsibility for allocating, tracking, and reporting $1 - $3m Global budget for Structural Engineering and Simulation (Tools and Contract work).
  • Approval responsibility (shared) for selection of Simulation tools and equipment

 

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Creation and execution of agreed Simulation tools portfolio, and 5-year strategic plan for same
  • Creation and execution of Structural Engineering project portfolio, and 5-year strategic plan for same
  • Adherence to annual Budget and Manpower strategies that achieve maximum portfolio delivery, Product Quality, Manufacturability, and Cost
  • Globally distributed Engineering team organization, skill set development, and global process implementation
  • Systems development in collaboration with the ECT to achieve global synergies in tools and process, in support of global collaboration.
  • Technical competence to evaluate, select, and oversee implementation of appropriate simulation technologies
