Design Engineer – Cabs & Shielding


Job Description

The purpose of this role is to be responsible for certain design activities for the AGCO-Hesston new product development cabs & shielding group. This role is to support the design of certain cab & shielding subsystem components. The applicant will be expected to provide professional expertise in plastic design, surface modeling, cab interiors, mounting structures, tolerance stack up & system integration.


Summary of Duties

  • Complete assigned design work to meet product specifications & project schedules according to AGCO’s phased gate approval process.
  • Achieve as-defined product deliverables including performance, reliability, quality, weight, serviceability, and cost targets.
  • Assist in the development of engineering specifications & required project status presentations for management review.
  • Assist in global cross site design & testing activities as required.
  • Coordinate testing activities with global AGCO test groups to ensure product meets agreed engineering expectations.
  • Travel as needed to suppliers, production plants, dealerships, customer job sites & field test locations related to the development of engineering projects.
  • Work with harvesting & hay products groups to assist in design of plastic & other exterior shields.
  • Provide guidance to purchasing in selection for selecting plastic processes that are best suited to design requirements.
  • Assist in functional fit up of plastic exterior shields to harvesting & hay product prototypes including support of SOP.
    Functional Knowledge
  • Experience with Plastics, Foams & Fabrics
  • Experience with Off-Road Equipment is desired but not required
  • Experience with Welded Assemblies
  • Experience with Pro-Engineer CAD System
  • Experience with lab testing requirements & data analysis
    Desirable Knowledge
  • Experience with industrial design & styling
  • Experience with tooling for injection molding & other common plastic fabrication processes
    Interpersonal Skills
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills to convey results, root cause analysis, processes/approaches to a variety of internal  or external audiences
  • Ability to address & resolve issues in an objective, fact-based, professional fashion
  • Motivated self-starter who can relate well to a diverse multidiscipline development team
  • Able to travel domestically & internationally for supporting development of equipment.
    Qualifications & Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, or Agricultural Engineering
  • 3+ years’ experience with Plastic, Agricultural or Off-Road Equipment design
