AGCO is currently seeking engineers to join our new “Smart Ag” innovation team in Jackson, MN.  This team has a “Farmer First” focus with high emphasis on identifying farmer’s problems or needs.  Team members will lead the way on the rapid innovation and development of products with a direct return on investment for end users, separate from AGCO’s traditional engineering projects and processes.  A high degree of ownership, flexibility, and a quick pace for exploration and development will be the norm for this group.  The position offers a fun and fast paced environment typical of that in a “skunkworks” engineering department or startup.

What You Will Do 

  • Acquire in-depth understanding of agricultural systems and processes.
  • Find, understand, and clearly communicate farmers/customer’s problems and the associated value in addressing their problems.
  • Display curiosity in providing market-leading solutions to farmer’s/customer’s problems.
  • Use of mechanical, electrical, robotic and software technologies to create solutions to solve these problems.  Be hands on during design processes and willing to get your “boots dirty”.
  • Documentation and presentation of ideas and results.
  • Accept failure as a part of innovation and rapidly transition to the next idea.
  • Work effectively within a small, high-performing team.  Small team will also need close cooperation with global electronics and software development departments.  Provide good attitude, culture, and drive in order to create the best atmosphere for innovation.
  • The position requires some (~10%, but can be as high as 20% during application seasons) travel for training, meeting with team members, and working with equipment in the field.

 

 

What You Will Bring 

  • Technical
    • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or other relevant technical degree.
    • The more of these skills the better:
      • Experience with End-to-End System Development
        • Background or experience with controller hardware specification, software architecture definition, requirements creation, coding, deployment, validation, and software maintenance strongly desired
        • Experience with signal processing and algorithm development strongly desired
        • Experience with image processing a strong plus
        • Experience with developing, and interfacing to, graphical user interfaces is desired
        • Experience defining or designing around system I/O requirements
        • Experience with C, C ++, Visual Studio, Linux, Python, MatLab, or other languages in embedded controls applications
        • Implementation of HMI solutions for vehicle terminals as well as for smart device apps
        • Ability to design and implement robust and scalable software architectures for use in mobile machinery
        • Rapid control prototyping for the functional representation of functions and systems
        • Simulation of agricultural engineering systems with regard to model-based design
        • Experience with software version control systems such as Apache Subversion/TortoiseSVN or Git as well as experience with software build systems a strong plus
      • Standard communications
        • Ability to become proficient in mobile machinery communication protocols and standards, specifically SAE J1939 and ISO 11783
        • Knowledge of communication networks, e.g. CAN, Ethernet, Bluetooth
        • Implementation of communication solutions: Isobus, Advanced Sensors, Smart Devices
        • Ability to implement new communications protocols as necessary
        • Solid understanding of network communications
      • Experience with machine control systems
        • A solid understanding of control theory and how to apply it to mobile machinery
        • Ability to generate and implement detailed design requirements
        • Experience in modeling, simulation and rapid control prototyping

    • Ability to contribute beyond your direct area of responsibility.
    • Proven track record displaying extreme ownership in project success.
    • Provide prompt support to the broader innovation team, beta testers, product marketing, and technical publications as needed.

A Plus If You Have  

  • One or more years of experience with the development of solutions for agricultural systems.  Basics of agricultural machinery and processes.
  • Experience with both mechanical and software technologies.
  • Agronomic training or background.
  • Experience with hands on work.  In field, shop work, welding, assembling, etc.
