About the Role:
Precision Planting is seeking a North American Shipping Manager whose primary responsibilities will be for the Storage and Distribution of the company’s shipping operations to our North American business partners. This position will be responsible for coordinating the processing of outgoing shipments including the packaging and quality of the outgoing shipments. As a North America Shipping Manager, you will have a team of employees under your supervision, which means strong leadership skills are essential for success. As the North America Shipping Manager your primary objective is to ensure shipments get from point A to point B on time and on budget. Achieving this objective involves several duties and responsibilities that require a wide range of skills.

What would I be doing?

  • Hiring and Training Shipping Personnel
    • In addition to managing the shipping process, Shipping Managers are responsible for hiring and training their own Shipping Associates. This involves collaborating with Human Resources to conduct interviews, as well as onboarding new employees with a structured training program. Shipping Managers are also responsible for maintaining high employee morale through cultivation of a positive work environment.


  • Analyzing Metrics and Creating Reports
    • Shipping Managers spend a fair amount of their time analyzing key performance indicators and formulating their findings into reports to be communicated with stakeholders. They analyze things like carrier performance and daily employee productivity, and then formulate their findings into daily reports.
  • Diagnosing and assisting with solving of supply chain issues
    • Shipping Managers are responsible for ensuring that the shipping processes run smoothly. This involves resolving problems concerning logistics systems, imports and exports, transportation and customer issues. Complex problem-solving skills are used by Shipping Managers on a daily basis.


  • Create and Implement Shipping Policies and Procedures
    • The Shipping Manager is responsible for ensuring the policies and procedures for all the facilities under their supervision are being followed. These policies and procedures include proper protocol for operating all warehouse equipment, as well as compliance with health and safety regulations.   
    • Help in determining the best practices for the export, transportation, and storage of materials, and instruct team members on changes to these procedures, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, safety, and performance by improving or replacing procedures and work practices that are not working or reliably followed.


  • Other responsibilities may include but may not be limited to:
    • Use software to track, check, prioritize and route orders
    • Manage all important documents such as advanced shipping notice, pick slips, bills of lading etc.
    • Direct the flow of packages from preparation to shipment
    • Inspect labels, barcodes and other features of completed orders
    • Supervise and lead subordinates (Shipping Supervisors, order pickers etc.)
    • Collaborate with warehouse, purchasing and other managers to optimize processes
    • Resolve issues regarding shipped orders
    • Ensure compliance to legal regulations and company policies
    • Report to management on activities and issues
    • Continue to grow lean knowledge and use the tools to identify and grow continuous improvement within the Shipping Department.
    • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, coworkers, business partners and other members of the leadership team


What must I have?

  • Strong verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability/willingness to learn OEM-specific portal/software 
  • Problem-solving experience, and willingness to learn

  • Proficiency in basic Business Mathematics

  • Ability to motivate and manage employees
  • Technical knowledge of machines used in shipping processes
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Project management skills
  • 2-year degree, required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Supply Chain management, preferred
  • 4 plus years of experience and/or training in Shipping, Production and/or Supervision
  • Knowledge in both GP ERP System and SCALE WMS System, preferred


What other specific skills & experiences would be good for me to have?

  • Proven experience as shipping manager
  • Solid knowledge of logistics procedures
  • Experience in using EDI and preparing shipping documents (e.g., ASN)
  • Computer savvy with excellent knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel)
  • Experience in directing and evaluating subordinates
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • High school diploma: BSc/BA in supply chain, logistics or relative field is a definite plus
